An STL's volume and weight in PLA

How much material a part takes, and what it weighs, follows from its volume. KeepSimp measures the volume of a closed STL and weighs it in the materials people print with most.

Its volume, when it is closed.

Drop the STL into the volume calculator. Its volume is measured from its triangles, and given only when they close a solid: an open surface has no volume, and three programs gave three different numbers for one holed box. Repair it first if it is not closed.

Its weight, from the makers' own sheets.

Choose PLA, PETG, ABS, TPU or resin. Each density is one maker's published figure: Prusament PLA 1.24 g/cm³ and PETG 1.27 g/cm³ (ISO 1183), Polymaker PolyLite ABS 1.04 g/cm³, NinjaTek NinjaFlex TPU 1.19 g/cm³ and Formlabs Grey Resin, cured, 1.14 g/cm³. A 20 × 30 × 40 mm block weighs about 29.8 g in PLA.

That is the weight printed solid. Other makes differ a little, and a part printed with less infill weighs less, which only your slicer can say.

Its unit.

STL says no unit; it is read in millimetres, as printers and CAD programs write it. Choose another unit if the size looks wrong, and the volume and weight follow.
