An FBX file, opened without Autodesk's software.

Open an FBX file in your browser with nothing uploaded: turn it round, play its animations and see its parts and materials, at the size the file says.

An FBX model opened in a browser, with its parts and animations listed

FBX is the format games, animation programs and 3D shops pass between them. It was made by Autodesk and is not openly documented, so few programs outside the big ones open it. KeepSimp opens it in your browser.

Drop the FBX with its pictures.

Open the FBX viewer and choose the .fbx and its pictures together; pictures packed inside the FBX come with it. The page names any picture it needs that is missing.

Binary FBX from version 6.4 on and text FBX from version 7.0 on open, as three.js's own FBX reader reads them. A file it cannot read, or whose unit it cannot place, is tried with KeepSimp's own build of Assimp, the open library many programs use for FBX, which reads FBX 7.1 and later.

At the size the file says.

An FBX says its unit (its UnitScaleFactor, in centimetres) and which way is up. The viewer reads both, so a model made in centimetres in Maya and one made in metres in Blender are both shown at their real size, standing upright.

Its parts and animations.

Parts lists every piece by name; Details counts its materials, pictures, skeletons and animations. Each animation plays with a timeline, at half, normal or double speed.

To keep it as a file other programs open, choose Change the format: GLB keeps the animations too.
