Tuning by microphone, explained.
How the tuner hears a note through your microphone, what cents mean, and why one string at a time works best, with nothing recorded or sent.
By Suraj Kumar2 min read
A tuner listens for the repeat in a string's sound.
Finding the pitch.
The sound is read a few thousand samples at a time and its pitch found by the McLeod pitch method (pitchy), trusted only when it is clear and loud enough.
Cents.
A cent is a hundredth of a semitone; within 5 cents the page says In tune.
Nothing kept.
The microphone is asked for only when you press Start; nothing is recorded or sent.
