Writing

Change a word everywhere, and see each change first.

Find a word or a pattern in a text and replace it everywhere at once, with whole words, capitals and regular expressions, seeing each change first.

By 3 min read

A text box with a line under it that says 1,204 words, about 5 minutes to read, beside cards for counting, capitals, comparing and tidying.

A name spelt wrong forty times, a product that was renamed, a date format to change: find and replace does it at once. The page counts the places as you type and shows every change before it makes one.

Words as you type them.

Type what to find and what to put in its place. The page counts the places it found as you type. Match case finds only the same capitals; Whole words only finds “cat” but not “category”. What you type is taken as written, so a $ or a dot means just that.

Patterns, safely.

Under More options, Patterns lets you write a regular expression, in JavaScript's flavour, with $1 or $<name> in the replacement for what a group found. A badly written pattern can take minutes on a long text, so it runs on the Developer toolkit's regex worker, away from the page, and is stopped after two seconds.

One step, undone at once.

Preview shows the text before and after with every change marked. Replacing everywhere is one step, and Undo puts the text back as it was.

Nothing leaves your browser.

Everything is worked out on your device: what you paste, type or open is never sent anywhere, and nothing is kept when you leave the page. There are no adverts, no accounts and no limits on length.
