There are exactly 2.54 centimetres in an inch, so the sum is one division or one multiplication.
Centimetres to inches: divide by 2.54.
30 cm is 30 ÷ 2.54 = about 11.811 inches. Inches to centimetres multiplies instead, and is always exact: 12 inches is 30.48 cm.
As a ruler reads it.
Rulers mark inches in sixteenths, so the converter also gives the nearest sixteenth with how far off it is: 11.811 in is 11 13/16 in to the nearest sixteenth.
Millimetres too.
A millimetre is a tenth of a centimetre, so 25.4 mm make an inch. Type mm, cm or m and the converter reads them all.
