How to turn a height such as 5 ft 11 in into centimetres exactly, and a height in centimetres into feet and inches, with a quick check.

Heights are given in feet and inches in some places and centimetres in others. The sum takes two steps.
Feet and inches to centimetres.
Turn it all into inches, then multiply by 2.54. 5 ft 11 in is 5 × 12 + 11 = 71 inches, and 71 × 2.54 = 180.34 cm exactly. In the converter, type 5'11" or 5 ft 11 in.
Centimetres to feet and inches.
Divide by 2.54 for inches, then take out whole feet: 170 cm is about 66.93 inches, which is 5 ft 6.93 in, or 5 ft 6 15/16 in to the nearest sixteenth.
Typing a height.
The converter reads 5'11", 5′11″, 5 ft 11 in, 5ft11 and 5 feet 11 inches alike. It does not read 5.11 as 5 ft 11 in, since that is five point one one feet.
