How working days are counted, around weekends and public holidays.

Working days leave out weekend days and public holidays, which differ by country and region. How the Date calculator counts them for 250 countries.

The Date calculator counting from 8 November to 25 December 2026: 1 month and 17 days, 47 days in all

A working day is one that is neither a weekend day nor a public holiday. Both depend on where you are.

Weekends are not the same everywhere.

Most countries rest on Saturday and Sunday, but much of the Gulf rests on Friday and Saturday, and some places on one day alone. The calculator takes the usual weekend for the country from your browser's own data, and you can tick your own days under More options: many offices work Monday to Friday where the law's week is longer.

Public holidays, by country and region.

Holidays come from python-holidays, an open list kept by volunteers, for 250 countries from 2020 to 2035, with each region's own days where they differ: a US state, an Indian state, a Canadian province. Holidays that wait on the moon being sighted, such as Eid, are estimates and are marked so. The days left out are listed by name.

The first and last day.

As with plain days, the first day is counted and the last is not, unless you turn on Count the last day too. To find a date a number of working days away instead, choose A date before or after and Working days.
