A .riv, as a GIF that plays anywhere.
Convert a .riv to a GIF in your browser, nothing uploaded: Rive's own runtime draws its frames on your device, a state machine with its inputs as you set them.

A .riv plays only where a Rive runtime runs. A chat, an email or a slide usually has none, but nearly all of them play a GIF. KeepSimp's RIV to GIF page draws one from the other in your browser, with nothing uploaded.
Drop it and save a GIF.
Drop a .riv. It plays first, as it is, so you can see it is the right one, and Export is already set to a GIF. Rive's own runtime draws each frame on your device, and the Animation converter's engine writes them as a GIF.
An animation, or a state machine.
An animation is drawn for one pass, from its start to its end. A state machine has no end of its own, so you choose how long it is drawn for. Set its inputs first: turn a switch on, set a number, or press a trigger, and the GIF shows it as those make it play.
A GIF does not react. To keep buttons and hovers working, use the .riv itself on the page.
What a GIF can keep.
A GIF holds 256 colours at most in a frame, and each pixel is either fully clear or fully solid. Gradients can band and soft edges can look jagged. For soft see-through edges, choose an animated WebP or an APNG instead; for a post, an MP4.
