Working out a weighted grade.
A grade from parts that count for different shares, such as homework, tests and a final: each score times its weight, over the total weight.

When parts of a course count differently, a plain average is wrong.
The sum.
Homework 92% at 20%, tests 85% at 30% and the final 78% at 50%: (92 × 20 + 85 × 30 + 78 × 50) ÷ 100 = 82.9%.
Weights that do not add to 100.
The page divides by what they add up to and says so, so each part counts its share.
Exact.
The arithmetic is exact, so the answer is never off by a rounding in the middle.
