Typing

Today's typing challenge, and racing your best.

The same minute of words for everyone each day, a ghost of your best run to race, links to challenge a friend, and streaks kept only on your device.

A typing test with its words, some typed in place, and the result beside it: 62 words a minute and 97% of keys right

A typing test is more fun with something to beat. The Typing test gives you three things to race, none of which needs an account or a server: today's challenge, your own best run, and a friend's run sent as a link.

Today's challenge.

Every day there is one minute of common English words, the same for everyone. The words come from the date alone, worked out on your device, so no server picks them and anyone anywhere gets the same ones. Tomorrow brings new words; yesterday's never change.

Race a ghost.

Turn on Race under More options and a second, fainter caret moves through the words as you type. It can go at a steady speed you set, at the speed of your best test of that kind, or, when the words are the same, as a ghost that plays back your best run key by key, mistakes and all.

Challenge a friend.

After a test, Challenge a friend makes a link that carries the words, the settings and your run after the # in the address. That part of an address is never sent to a website, so it reaches your friend's browser and nowhere else. Opening it asks first, then lets them race your ghost over the same words.

Anyone could write such a link by hand, so a ghost's speed proves nothing: it is for fun between friends.

Bests and streaks, kept on your device.

Nothing is kept unless you turn on Keep my results on this device. Then each result, your best of each kind of test, the days you typed and your lessons' letters stay in this browser, never sent anywhere. Turning it off takes them all away, and the Kept on this device button in the header lists them with everything else KeepSimp keeps.

A result card makes a picture of a result to share. It is a practice result, not a certificate, and it says so.
