How it works and help
Tones are made by your browser; nothing is downloaded, sent or kept. High and loud tones can harm hearing and speakers: start quiet.

Questions people ask

Is this a hearing test?
No. Online tests are not calibrated: the answer depends on your headphones and their volume as much as your ears. See an audiologist for a hearing test.
What is a usual range?
Young people often hear up to about 17 to 20 kHz, and the top falls with age; the page says only what you heard on this device.
Is it safe?
Turn the volume down first and then up slowly; never play high tones loudly.

This page is the Tone generator, opened for this one job; every other tool it has is one press away. Each of its settings is explained on the Tone generator's own page.
