EST to IST: ten and a half hours, or nine and a half.
India is 10½ hours ahead of New York in winter and 9½ in summer, since India keeps one time all year. Convert EST to IST with the day it lands on.

Converting EST to IST is a sum of hours, until the clocks change. Here is the gap, and when it moves.
The gap.
India Standard Time is UTC+5:30 all year. New York is UTC−5 in winter, so India is 10½ hours ahead: 9:00 am EST is 7:30 pm IST the same day. In summer New York is UTC−4 and the gap is 9½ hours. IST also stands for Irish and Israel Standard Time; the page takes it as India's and says so.
When the clocks change.
Only New York changes its clocks, on the second Sunday of March and the first Sunday of November, so the gap to India changes on those days. A morning meeting in New York is evening in India; the meeting planner shows where both are still at work.
Type it and see.
Type a time with both names, such as 9am EST to IST, and the answer says the time and the day there, with what each abbreviation was taken to mean. Add more places after a comma, and add tomorrow or a date to look ahead past a change of clocks.
