Clips and a photo made into a square video for LinkedIn, with captions

Video in the LinkedIn feed plays without sound until someone taps it. A square video with words on it holds attention on a phone and a computer alike. You can make one in your browser from your own clips and photos.

Square, up to 15 minutes.

LinkedIn's help for members takes videos from 1:2.4 to 2.4:1, at 10 to 60 frames a second, up to 15 minutes and 5 GB (its help for Pages still says 10 minutes). The LinkedIn video maker makes a 1080 × 1080 square and warns when it runs past 15 minutes or 5 GB.

LinkedIn also asks for the edges of a video, top, bottom and sides, to be kept free of what matters.

Words for people watching without sound.

Make captions hears your speech on this device and puts the words on the video as you say them, a few at a time. Choose the Clean subtitle look for a calm, readable line; read the words through, since speech recognition can mishear.

Export it, checked.

Press Export at the top right. MP4 at 1080p, 30 frames a second and Balanced quality are chosen for you, and LinkedIn takes them. A title over the first seconds says what the video is about before anyone turns the sound on.

The reel is written in your browser, then opened again and checked (its size, its length, that its picture and sound play and end together) before you download it. Choose a moment for the cover and you get that frame as a PNG beside it. Nothing is uploaded at any point.
