The Bill splitter: three people sharing a $128 bill, $42.67, $42.67 and $42.66, adding up exactly

Most arguments about money between friends are about the last few cents or who pays whom. Here is how the Bill splitter settles both.

Every cent accounted for.

Shares are rounded down to the cent, and the cents left over go one each to the largest remainders, ties to the first in line, so the shares always add up to the total. $100 three ways is $33.34, $33.33 and $33.33.

A group, settled.

For a trip or a shared home, each expense is typed with who paid and for whom, and the page works out who owes whom and the fewest payments that settle it.

By income.

One amount, such as rent, can be shared in proportion to what each person earns.
