Tip on the bill
Before taxAfter tax
Etiquette guides advise tipping on the bill before tax; many people tip on the total.
This is arithmetic on the numbers you type, not financial advice. Rates, fees and rules differ by lender and place.
Worked out in your browser; nothing you type is sent anywhere. A link carries the bill after the #, which no server sees.

Every option explained
- Leftover cents
- Shares are rounded down and the cents left over go to the largest remainders, ties to the first in line, so they add up exactly.
- Tip before or after tax
- Before tax by default, as etiquette guides advise; the other way is said beside it.
- Fewest payments
- Found exactly by trying every way the group could split, for up to 14 people; past that the page says the payments may not be the fewest.
- Paying back directly
- Only pay back who paid for you, which can take more payments.
