How it works and help
Worked out exactly on your device: 0.1 + 0.2 is 0.3 here, and nothing you type is sent anywhere.

A little help along the way

Follow these steps. Every option is explained underneath. Everything is worked out in your browser; nothing is sent anywhere.

  1. Type or press a sumType with your keyboard, paste a sum, or press the keys. The answer shows quietly under the sum as you type.
  2. Press = or EnterThe answer is shown large, with whether it is exact, and the sum drawn as a textbook would draw it.
  3. Carry on or start againPress an operator to carry the answer on as Ans, or a number to start a new sum. AC clears the sum.
  4. Use the tapeEvery answer is listed on the tape. Press one to use it again, or GT to add them all up.

Exact answers
Numbers are kept as exact fractions, so 0.1 + 0.2 is 0.3 and a third stays a third. Answers that cannot be fractions, such as √2, are worked out to 60 digits and shown to 12, or as many as you choose up to 30.
How a sum is read
Things written side by side multiply like ×, from left to right, so 6 ÷ 2(1 + 2) is 9; −2² is −4; and a function written without brackets takes only what follows it. Whenever a sum is one that calculators disagree on, the answer says how it was read.
Percent
200 + 10% adds 10% of 200, as a desk calculator does, and 50% × 80 is 40.
Scientific keys
sin, cos and tan and their inverses in degrees or radians, ln, log and log with any base (log_2(8)), powers and roots, factorials, nCr and nPr, Ans and the memory.
Fractions
Press S⇔D, or choose under More options, to see answers that are fractions as fractions.
Keeping the tape
The tape goes when you leave the page unless you turn on “Keep the tape on this device”; it then stays in this browser until you turn it off.
