What you can do

  • Animations, video and framesConvert between GIF, WebP and APNG, turn a clip into a GIF or a GIF into a tiny MP4, or export every frame.
  • Trim, speed and directionKeep the part you want, speed it up or slow it down, lower the frame rate, reverse it or make it a boomerang.
  • Compare before you downloadPlay the result, pause on any frame and drag a slider across the original and the new file.
  • Build from images, convert in batchesDrop several still images to make an animation from them, or up to 20 files to convert together.

A little help along the way

Watch the tour, or follow the same steps below. Every option is explained underneath.

1 min 14 s, no sound. On-screen captions describe each step; the same steps are written out here.
  1. Add your animationsDrop up to 20 animated GIF, APNG or WebP files or short videos, or several still images to build an animation from. You can also paste, or try the samples.
  2. Pick a formatWebP for small files on the web, GIF to play everywhere, APNG for exact colour, MP4 or WebM for the smallest files, or the frames themselves.
  3. Keep the part you wantDrag the two handles on the strip of frames, or type a start and an end. Then set the speed, frame rate and direction.
  4. Check a framePause the preview, step to any frame and drag the slider across the original and the result.
  5. Fit where it is goingPick a destination, or set a file size limit, and the tool lowers quality, frame rate and size until the real file fits.
  6. DownloadDownload one file or the whole batch as a ZIP. The facts line shows the size and how much smaller it is.
Every option explained
Which format should I choose?
WebP is the best default for web pages: full colour, transparency and far smaller than GIF. GIF plays in every app, email client and chat, but holds only 256 colours. APNG keeps exact colour and smooth transparency, with larger files, and shows its first frame where animation is not supported.
MP4 and WebM
Video is far smaller than any animated image for photographs and screen recordings: often a twentieth of the GIF. It has no transparency or loop count, and needs a video player, not an image tag. These formats are offered when your browser can write them.
Video in
MP4, WebM and MOV clips become GIF, WebP or APNG. Trim to the part you want and lower the frame rate or size; a long clip at full size is too large to hold. Sound is not kept.
Animations from images
Add two or more still images together and they become the frames of one animation. Reorder them, set how long each shows, duplicate or remove them. The first image sets the size; the others are fitted inside it.
Frames and sprite sheets
Frames saves every frame as its own PNG, WebP or JPEG in a ZIP. Sprite sheet puts them on one image with CSS and JSON that say where each frame is and how long it shows. Save this frame, under the paused preview, saves just one.
Destinations
A destination sets the format, size, length and largest file that a service asks for, such as a Discord emoji or a Telegram sticker. Each shows its source and when it was checked; figures a service does not publish are marked as reported. Changing one of those settings by hand leaves the preset.
File size limit
With a limit set, the tool converts with your settings first. If the file is too big it lowers quality, then frame rate, then size, a step at a time, measuring the real file each time, and says what it changed. An exact size is never scaled. If nothing fits, you get the smallest result and a note.
Crop and exact size
Crop keeps a rectangle of one animation; choose a shape such as 1:1 or drag the box. Exact size fits the picture inside a width and height and centres it, which is what stickers need.
Compare formats
Converts the selected animation to every format your browser can write, at your settings, and lists the real sizes, smallest first.
GIF encoder
Fast picks one set of colours for the whole animation and stores only what changes between frames. Best uses gifski, which gives every frame its own colours for the smoothest result; it is much slower and is used for shorter or smaller animations.
Quality
High keeps the most detail. Balanced is a sensible default. Small file uses fewer colours or stronger compression. Lossless keeps every pixel in WebP and APNG; GIF cannot be lossless. Custom sets the encoder quality, or the number of colours for GIF and APNG.
Trim
Keeps the part of the selected animation between the two handles. Each animation in a batch has its own trim.
Speed and frames per second
Speed changes how long each frame shows. A frame rate limit drops frames while keeping the length, which is the quickest way to shrink a file; it never adds frames.
Reverse, boomerang and loop
Reverse plays backwards. Boomerang plays forwards then backwards so the loop has no jump. Loop sets how many times the animation plays: forever, once or a number. A length limit cuts every animation to a number of seconds.
Size, rotate and flip
Set a width, height, longest side or percentage; proportions are kept. Results can be up to 1,920 px on the longest side.
Background
See-through areas are kept by default. GIF pixels are either solid or clear, so soft edges turn hard; filling the background with a colour avoids that.
Text
Top text and bottom text are written across every frame, centred, in a bold face with a contrasting outline so they read on any picture. Choose the size and colour, capitals, and the seconds between which the text shows. Long text wraps, and a word wider than the picture is made smaller.
Colour and fades
Greyscale, sepia and invert are filters; brightness, contrast and saturation run from -100 to +100. Fade in and fade out blend the start and the end with black, or with the background colour when one is chosen. A fade makes every frame in it different, so the file grows.
Logo or watermark
Add a picture, such as a PNG with a see-through background, and it is painted on every frame of every animation in a corner or the centre, at a width and opacity you set. Text is drawn over it. SVG is not accepted; convert it to PNG first.
Limits and privacy
Up to 20 files per batch: animations up to 100 MB, videos up to 500 MB and ten minutes. Long clips at large sizes need trimming or a lower frame rate. Everything runs in your browser; files are not uploaded.
