Questions people ask
- How do you work out a percentage change?
- Take the old value from the new one, divide by the old value and multiply by 100. From 80 to 100 is (100 − 80) ÷ 80 × 100 = 25%. The page shows these steps with your own numbers.
- What is the difference between percent and percentage points?
- When both numbers are percentages, such as an interest rate going from 4% to 5%, the plain difference is 1 percentage point, while the change measured against 4% is 25%. Turn on “The numbers are percentages” under More options and both are said.
- Is percentage change the same as percentage difference?
- No. Percentage change has a before and an after and is measured against the before. Percentage difference compares two values with neither first, against their average; the page gives it under the answer.
