Controller stick drift test

Leave a controller's sticks alone to read how far off centre they rest, and circle them to check their range. Free, with no account or uploads.

Read your sticks' drift

Press a button to connect, leave both sticks alone and press Read drift. Drift the controller's own deadzone hides cannot be seen.

Connect a controller and press any button on it.

Browsers show a controller to a page only after one of its buttons is pressed, so that a page cannot learn what is plugged in.

How it works and help

A little help along the way

Follow these steps. Every option is explained underneath. Everything happens in your browser; nothing you press is sent anywhere.

  1. Choose your keyboardThe shape (ANSI, ISO, JIS, ABNT2, Korean or Mac) is guessed from your system; change it if it is wrong, and choose the size: full, tenkeyless, 75%, 65%, 60% or the number pad.
  2. Click the board and press your keysEach key lights while held and keeps a tick once it has worked. The site's own shortcuts step aside while you test. Press Escape twice to leave.
  3. Hold several at onceTo test ghosting and rollover, hold many keys together; the result keeps the most held at once.
  4. Read the resultIt says how many keys have worked, which are still to press, the most held at once, and any key that bounced.

Questions people ask

How do I test for stick drift?
Connect the controller, press a button, leave both sticks alone and press Read drift. It reads them for three seconds and says how far off centre they rested.
How much drift is too much?
Under about 10% of the way to the edge is hidden by most games' deadzones. More than that can move a game without you touching the stick.
Can a page see all drift?
No. A controller's own deadzone can hide small drift before any page is told, so a stick that reads clean here may still drift a little.

This page is the Keyboard tester, opened for this one job; every other tool it has is one press away. Each of its settings is explained on the Keyboard tester's own page.
