Create a fillable PDF form

Add, move, resize, name and delete the fields of a PDF form. Free, with no account or uploads.

Drop a PDF to make a fillable form

Add text fields, checkboxes, radio groups, dropdowns, lists, dates and empty signature places. Move, resize and name them, then download a form others can fill in. Everything stays on your device.

  • PDF

Stays on your device · up to 300 MB

Off, nothing is kept: closing the tab loses changes that were not downloaded. On, the file and your changes are kept in this browser until you close the file or throw the draft away. Nothing is sent anywhere.

What you can do

  • Make fields others can fill inAdd text, multiline text, checkboxes, radio groups, dropdowns, lists, dates and empty signature places. Fields stay part of the PDF's own form.
  • Put each field where it belongsDrag a field, pull a handle to resize, or use the arrow keys. Field settings change its name, tooltip, requirement and text length limit.
  • Fill it in againDownload with fields kept as fields, then open the result in Fill PDF form or another PDF reader. Dates use yyyy-mm-dd; a signature place proves nothing about who signed.
  • Your file stays on your deviceNothing is uploaded. Undo and redo work for every change; a draft is kept only when you ask.

A little help along the way

This is the PDF editor opened for making form fields. Everything is done on your device.

  1. Open the PDFChoose, drop or paste one PDF. Create form fields is in hand, with field settings open. XFA forms cannot be changed here.
  2. Add a fieldChoose text, multiline text, checkbox, radio group, dropdown, list, date or signature place. In Field settings give it a unique name, a tooltip, a requirement and a character limit. Choices go one per line. Press Add field.
  3. Move and resizeDrag its frame to move it, or pull a handle to resize. The arrow keys move it by one point, ten with Shift; Alt and arrows change its size. New fields start in the part of the page you can see.
  4. Name and checkChoose a field and open Field settings to rename it or change its tooltip, requirement and text limit. Save field properties applies them together. Delete removes the whole field, including every choice of a radio group. Undo brings it back.
  5. Download and fillKeep fields as fields when downloading. Open the result in Fill PDF form and try each field before sharing. The Fill fields button in the editor also puts down the creation tool so the fields can be used.
Every option explained
Names and tooltips
A name is unique in the file. Dots separate levels of existing field names, so a new name here has no dots. A tooltip gives someone using a keyboard or screen reader a clear label. Renaming a nested field keeps its parent.
Radio groups and lists
A radio group has one name and at least two choices. Only one can be on. Moving or resizing one choice affects that choice; deleting removes the group. A list may allow several choices; a dropdown chooses one.
Dates
Dates are written as yyyy-mm-dd. The file carries only a fixed date-format action for other programs. KeepSimp reads it as text and never executes a script.
Suggested fields
Suggest fields reads the page in view and offers a field for each line to write on, empty box, small square and run of underscores, named after its label. Each is shown dashed; add the ones you want, one by one or all at once, and dismiss the rest. Nothing is added unless you add it.
Lining up and tab order
Shift and a click picks several fields on a page: line them up, space them evenly or give them one size. Tab order lists the page's fields in the order the Tab key goes through them; move one earlier or later, or put them in order by rows. Copy to pages puts a copy of a field on other pages, each with a name of its own.
Signature places
An empty place for a signature is only a place. Someone can sign into it with a certificate (in KeepSimp, “Sign with a certificate” at download, or in another program), or draw a signature over it with Sign PDF. Filled certificate signature fields are left alone.
Limits
No calculated fields, arbitrary scripts or XFA forms. Suggested fields are judged by the lines and boxes a page draws and can be wrong: check each before you add it. Lists use the editor's own appearance in Helvetica; unsupported letters may be missing from that appearance while their values stay in the file.
