Questions people ask
- Can it find a password I have forgotten?
- No. It opens an archive with the password you know and never guesses or tries lists of passwords. If it is lost, ask whoever made the archive to send it again.
- Which kinds of lock does it open?
- WinZip AES at 128, 192 or 256 bits, which 7-Zip, WinZip and WinRAR write, and the older ZipCrypto. PKWARE's rare strong encryption is not opened, and the page says so.
- Is my password sent or kept anywhere?
- No. It is checked against the archive on your device, stays on the page while it is open, and is forgotten when you open another archive or close the page.
- Are the files I take out still locked?
- No. One file is saved as it is, and several come as one ZIP with no password. Keep them as carefully as the locked archive.
This page is the Zip and archive tool, opened for this one job; every other tool it has is one press away. Each of its settings is explained on the Zip and archive tool's own page.
