Stays on your device · up to 300 MB

Off, nothing is kept: closing the tab loses changes that were not downloaded. On, the file and your changes are kept in this browser until you close the file or throw the draft away. Nothing is sent anywhere.

What you can do

  • Fill in the form's own fieldsType into text fields, tick boxes, choose from lists and pick dates. Tab goes from field to field, and fields that must be filled in are marked until they are.
  • Forms without fields tooOn a form that is only a picture of one, type anywhere, place ticks and crosses, add today's date and sign.
  • Kept as a form, or made finalDownload the form with its fields, so it can be filled in again, or with everything drawn into the page so nothing can be changed.
  • Nothing is uploadedThe form is opened and filled in on your device. A form's scripts are never run, so check any totals it would work out.

This is the PDF editor, opened for filling in forms. Its other tools (pictures, shapes, stamps, highlights and notes) are behind “All tools”.

A little help along the way

Follow the steps below. Every option is explained underneath.

  1. Open the formDrop the PDF, choose it from your device or paste it. A locked file asks for its password. The fields of the form are tinted so that you can see where to type.
  2. Fill in the fieldsClick a field and type, or press Tab to go from one field to the next. Tick boxes and round buttons are pressed; lists and drop-downs are chosen from; a date field opens a calendar.
  3. See what is missingThe line above the page says how many fields there are and how many that must be filled in are still empty. Go to the next one takes you there.
  4. Sign it, if it asksPress Sign to draw, type or use a picture of your signature, and drag it to its line. The calendar button adds today's date.
  5. DownloadChoose whether the form keeps its fields or everything becomes part of the page, then press Download. The file is read back and checked before your browser saves it.
Every option explained
Text fields
A line or several lines of text. A field with a limit takes no more letters than its limit. What you type goes into the file when you leave the field or press Enter; Escape leaves it as it was.
Tick boxes and round buttons
Press to tick, press again to clear. Of a group of round buttons one is chosen, and choosing another turns the first off, also when they are on different pages.
Drop-downs and lists
A drop-down takes one of its choices, or nothing; some also take words of your own. A list shows its options, and takes several where the form allows it.
Dates
A field the form marks as a date opens your device's calendar, and the day is written the way the form asks for it, such as 02/10/2026.
Fields that must be filled in
They have a red frame until they are filled in. Nothing stops you from downloading a form with some still empty; the line above the page only tells you.
Keep as fields, or part of the page
Keep as fields leaves a form that can be filled in again and changed, here or in another program. Part of the page draws what the fields hold into the page, so that nothing can be changed afterwards.
Forms without fields
Many forms are only a picture of a form. Fill those in like paper: the text tool types anywhere, the tick tool places ticks, crosses and dots, and Sign places your signature. For a row of boxes, such as a postcode or an account number, set Boxes in the text bar to how many there are and stretch the text box over the row: each letter goes into the middle of its own box.
What is not done
A form's scripts are never run, so a total the form would work out stays as it is: fill it in yourself. Forms of the XFA kind, which only Adobe's programs fill in, say so when they are opened. Fields that cannot be changed, push buttons and places for a certificate signature are left as they are.
Undo
Every field you fill in is a step that Ctrl or ⌘ Z takes back. The file lives in this tab only; closing it with changes that were not downloaded asks first.
